●Single-stage power conversion for high efficiency ●Eliminates post-regulators - Up to 10% higher efficiency - Low component count - Less than 30 mW no-load consumption ●Up to three independently regulated outputs - Constant voltage and constant current outputs - Less than ±1% combined load/line/cross regulation
As electronic devices continue to become more intelligent and functional, the applications of power ICs will become more and more widespread. Each electrical device also requires more than one DC voltage power supply to work. Take a household refrigerator as an example. When making ice, it requires a 25V voltage supply, and the MCU power supply voltage is 5V. If there is a refrigerator with an LCD display, The backlight circuit requires 30V constant current (CC) control.
According to Yan Jinguang, senior technical training manager of Power Intergrations: "The traditional multi-DC voltage power supply solution is to use a flyback plus multiple buck/boost converters to obtain different stable voltages to power the load." But this This solution faces many challenges, and the design requires trade-offs between efficiency, no-load power consumption, and output accuracy. Yan Jinguang said: "It is usually impossible to achieve a good trade-off. At least one parameter must be sacrificed, just like a triangular stool, at least one leg must be missing."
In addition, the traditional multi-output flyback switching power supply only regulates the voltage of the main output. Although it is easy to add an auxiliary output, the auxiliary output is not controlled. This will cause the output voltage to change with different load conditions, and sometimes the auxiliary output The voltage will even rise to more than 20%. Therefore, the traditional improvement method is to add a downstream buck or boost converter to achieve secondary adjustment control. While increasing or reducing the output voltage, it can also help control the V/I characteristics of the auxiliary output, but this method It also brings some negative effects, such as increasing cost and power supply size, reducing efficiency, increasing no-load power consumption and high-frequency noise, etc.
In order to meet the above challenges, Power Integrations, which is deeply involved in the field of high-voltage integrated circuits and high-efficiency power conversion, recently launched the InnoMux-2™ series of single-stage independently regulated multi-output offline power supply ICs, which combines AC/DC and post-stage DC /DC conversion stage integrated into a single chip, providing up to three independently regulated outputs.
According to Yan Jinguang, compared with the traditional two-stage structure, InnoMux-2 does not require a separate DC/DC conversion stage and can reduce the number of components by about 50%, thus reducing the PCB footprint. Moreover, the overall system efficiency can be improved by up to 10% without the need for a post-stage voltage regulator, that is, a single-stage conversion. Taking multi-output as an example (as shown below), the total system efficiency of the traditional multi-output + post-stage voltage regulator is 80%, while the total system efficiency of the multi-output system using InnoMux-2 can reach 90%. In addition, InnoMux-2 also uses 750V PowiGaN™ gallium nitride switch tubes, zero-voltage switching (no active clamping required) and synchronous rectification technology, which all help to further improve efficiency.
In addition, InnoMux2 enables precise control of the output even at no load and without using a bleeder resistor (dummy load). Since there is no need for an output voltage bleed resistor, the standby power consumption of the circuit is also improved by 20%.
Multi-output power IC with high system efficiency, making the future greener
Higher efficiency conversions are critical to a low-carbon future, and improving efficiency is key to achieving carbon emission reduction targets. In addition, reducing standby power consumption is equally important. Energy Star® and the EU labeling directive have further restricted the power consumption of equipment. It can be said that Power Integrations' InnoMux-2 is a product that meets the needs of a green future.
In addition, InnoMux2 supports a variety of output combinations, such as one constant voltage and one constant current output, two constant voltage outputs, three constant voltage outputs, and one constant voltage and up to eight constant current outputs, etc., which also makes its application fields very wide. , including small appliances, home automation, lighting, displays and some industrial application scenarios.
In the future, as the requirements for energy conservation and emission reduction further increase, the demand for high-efficiency IC products will also further increase. This product from Power Integrations is a good choice for building green electronic equipment.
