Switching power supply, also known as switching power supply or switching converter, is a high-frequency electrical energy conversion device. Its function is to convert a precise voltage into the voltage or current required by the user through different forms of architecture. This is the most commonly used type of power supply, and Y-capacitors are generally required on switch mode power supplies. Do you know what the function of Y-capacitors on switch mode power supplies is?

350W Switching Power Supply

In switching power supplies, the Y capacitor is used for common mode filtering. It is connected between L and ground or N and ground to filter out common mode signals between L and ground or N and ground. The Y capacitor is usually used symmetrically and mainly serves as a bypass, decoupling, filtering, and energy storage.

1. It is not easy to leak electricity.

If the safety regulation Y capacitor is removed, there may be a tingling phenomenon when touching some switching power supplies. As a safe capacitor, the safety regulation capacitor better protects everyone, that is, after the capacitor fails, it will not cause electric shock and will not endanger personal safety.

2. Filtering.

Installing Y capacitors in switch mode power supplies plays a crucial role in filtering out higher-order harmonics, preventing interference, and improving the quality of output voltage.
3. Decoupling: specifically refers to the removal of noise on the pins of the chip power supply, which is generated by the chip's own operation. Configuring decoupling capacitors can suppress noise caused by load changes and is a common practice in reliability design of switch mode power supply circuit boards.

So, in switching power supplies, the Y capacitor is still extremely important and cannot be omitted.
