How to solve the problem of switching power supply transformer failure?

Article Source:Kinri Energy | Author:Kinri Energy | Issuing Time:2024.05.16
A switching power supply transformer is a power transformer that incorporates switching tubes. In addition to the voltage conversion function of a regular transformer, it also has insulation isolation and power transmission functions. It is generally used in high-frequency circuits such as switching power supplies. However, it is inevitable that some failures may occur in switch mode power transformers. So, how can switch mode power transformer failures be resolved?

Solution to Transformer Failure in Switching Power Supply:

(1) Discharge ignition: The discharge ignition observed on the surface is generally caused by dirt and insulation damage on the pins of the switch power transformer. Repair method: Remove the switch power transformer, thoroughly clean the pins, outer surface, and printed circuit board of the switch power transformer with anhydrous alcohol and medical cotton balls. If insulation damage is found, the damaged area can be wrapped with polyester tape.

(2) Coil open circuit: When a switch power transformer is found to have an open circuit failure, the first thing to check is whether the broken wire is at the pin of the transformer (which is prone to false soldering of the wire head). By manipulating each lead wire with tweezers, the failure point can be quickly identified.

(3) Magnetic core rupture: The magnetic core can be firmly bonded with adhesive before use.

(4) Short circuit of coils: It is necessary to identify which group of coils has a short circuit, and then remove the coils (note the number of turns, position, and winding direction of the pins) before rewinding.

The above solutions for transformer failures in switching power supplies are shared here, hoping that this article will be helpful to everyone.
