What is the difference between waterproof grades IP65 and IP67?

Article Source:Kinri Energy | Author:Kinri Energy | Issuing Time:2024.05.12
The waterproof levels of IP65 and IP67 are both protection level standards set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), used to describe the protective ability of equipment against solid objects and liquids. These levels are represented by two digits, with the first digit indicating the level of protection against solid objects (such as dust) and the second digit indicating the level of protection against liquids (mainly water).

For IP65 and IP67, the first digit of both protection levels is 6, indicating that the equipment is completely dustproof, meaning no dust will enter the interior of the equipment.

The main difference between the two lies in the second digit, which is the level of protection against liquids:

IP65: Protection level 5 indicates that the device can prevent the intrusion of water flow. Specifically, IP65 rated equipment can withstand low-pressure water jet from any direction, suitable for some outdoor environments, but not suitable for immersion in water.

IP67: Protection level 7 indicates that the equipment can be immersed in water for a short period of time without damage. Specifically, IP67 rated equipment can withstand brief immersion, typically lasting 30 minutes underwater at a depth of 1 meter. This makes IP67 devices suitable for use in situations where they may be exposed to temporary underwater environments.

In summary, IP65 is suitable for applications that require waterproofing but do not involve immersion in water, such as outdoor lighting fixtures or some outdoor appliances. IP67 is more suitable for environments that may be temporarily submerged in water, such as portable electronic devices used outdoors. The selection of the appropriate waterproof level needs to be determined based on the specific application environment and the specific conditions that the equipment may experience.
