1. The function of short circuit protection

During the use of the power supply, due to certain reasons (such as equipment failure, abnormal operation, etc.), a short circuit may occur in the circuit, that is, directly connecting two lines or components with different potentials, causing the circuit to not work properly. In severe cases, it may cause damage to the circuit and equipment, endangering personal safety. Therefore, the short circuit protection function is designed to cope with this situation. It can quickly cut off the power output in the event of a short circuit in the circuit, avoid circuit overload, and protect the circuit and equipment, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the power supply.

Short circuit protection is mainly achieved by detecting the current in the circuit. When the current in the circuit exceeds the set threshold, the short-circuit protection circuit will immediately cut off the power output. Among them, current detection in the circuit can be achieved through current sensors, resistance detection, and other methods. As for the setting of the threshold, it is generally determined by the power supply design manufacturer based on the load capacity and safety requirements of the power supply.

2. Implementation method of short circuit protection

In power supply design, short circuit protection is usually achieved through the power control chip. Specifically, the power control chip will detect the output voltage and current, and if short circuit protection is triggered, it will automatically cut off the output to protect the circuit and equipment. In addition, some high-end power supplies are also equipped with programmable current limiters, which can dynamically adjust the output current according to the actual load situation to ensure power supply stability and output quality.

3. Precautions during use

Short circuit protection is a protective measure for power supplies, but in practical use, the following precautions should also be taken:

(1) Choosing a suitable power source requires comprehensive consideration of multiple factors such as load requirements, power quality, and power to ensure stable and reliable use;

(2) Check the wiring to ensure that there are no safety hazards such as short circuits or reversed connections;

(3) Ensure that the electrical parameters of the load circuit do not exceed the rated capacity range of the power supply;

(4) Pay attention to measures such as fire prevention, waterproofing, and moisture prevention for the power supply to avoid damage caused by human or natural disasters.
