The Causes and Suppression Methods of Switching Power Supply Noise

Article Source:Kinri Energy | Author:Kinri Energy | Issuing Time:2024.03.28
Switching power supplies are widely used in daily life and play an important control role in the use and management of electricity. The switch mode power supply, which is currently widely used in China, has certain advantages in many aspects and can meet the needs of modern power management. However, due to the influence of internal and external factors during use, it is easy to generate noise. This type of noise has a high frequency of occurrence and a significant impact, bringing certain negative impacts to people's work and life. Therefore, how to effectively reduce the noise of switching power supplies has become an urgent problem for relevant personnel to solve.

The internal causes of switch mode power supply noise:

(1) The noise generated during the use of a switching power supply. During the use of a switching power supply, factors such as current and resistance can instantly change, causing changes in the internal situation of the power supply. These changes are generally characterized by rapid and rapid changes, making it easy to generate noise and affecting the surrounding environment.
(2) Noise generated by internal component losses in switching power supplies. Due to frequent operations, there is a certain degree of internal component loss in switch mode power supplies. Therefore, when the internal components of switch mode power supplies are damaged, it will directly cause the generation of noise.

External causes of switch mode power supply noise

(1) Natural factors affect the generation of noise. Current has strong physical properties and is easily affected by external natural factors during operation. For example, during the use of switching power supplies in thunderstorms, a large amount of noise is easily generated.

(2) Noise caused by circuit reasons. Switching power supplies have a controlling effect on the entire circuit system, and under certain conditions, the circuit system can also react on the switching power supply, affecting it. In actual operation, problems with the circuit system often lead to the production of noise from the switching power supply.

Methods for suppressing switch mode power supply noise

1. Adding filters is a commonly used suppression method

(1) Install a power filter at the input end to reduce interference

(2) Install the common mode noise filter at the power output end. Adding a magnetic ring on the output line to form a conjugate reactor, coupled with the installation of a high-frequency capacitor, can effectively suppress common mode noise. Increasing the size of the output filtering inductance and filtering capacitor can suppress differential mode noise, and the more parallel capacitors there are, the better.

2. Line filter

If the power supply is subject to external interference such as lightning strikes and human noise interference, the misoperation will cause significant interference to the system. If a filter is connected to the AC input terminal, it can effectively reduce the generation of this interference and prevent the noise that occurs inside the switching power supply from leaking out from the input terminal.

3. Grounding measures

The purpose of grounding the power supply is for safety considerations, and grounding the power supply can effectively address electromagnetic compatibility issues. A good grounding system plays a crucial role in reducing electromagnetic interference.

4. Other measures

In addition to the above measures that can effectively suppress the noise of the power supply, we can also focus on reducing the noise impact of switch mode power supplies in terms of the position and direction of component installation, the overall layout of the system circuit, and other aspects.

In summary, the generation of noise in switch mode power supplies is influenced by various factors. To effectively suppress the noise of switch mode power supplies, relevant personnel should attach importance to the analysis of switch mode power supply noise. Through the application of various means, from macro to micro, comprehensively grasp the overall situation of switch mode power supplies, carry out effective governance, promote the upgrading of switch mode power supplies, and improve the functionality of switch mode power supplies.
